ACROBOTIC Propane and LPG Sensor Breakout Board (MQ-5/MQ5)

Regular price $4.95

This breakout board provides a convenient way to start using the popular MQ-5/MQ5 (datasheet), a Propane and Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) Sensor Module. The MQ-5 detects the concentrations of the target gas in the air and outputs a corresponding analog voltage. The MQ-5 is designed to be particularly sensitive to Propane (C3H8) gas in the air. It can be used in detecting equipments for gas leakages inside the home or industry. Although the sensor works great, please use certified equipment for reliable detection of gas leakages.

Our design includes a protection resistor, as well as an adjustable one for tuning the sensitivity. The resistance of the sensitive component inside the MQ-5 varies as the concentration of the target gas changes. It features fast response, high sensitivity, and a wide range of detection. It can measure concentrations of flammable gas of 300 to 10,000ppm.

As with all of our Breakout Boards the pin headers are included, but they're not soldered in to allow for different use cases!

Usage

This breakout board makes it easy to work with the onboard MQ-5 sensor.  The sensor needs to be connected to 5V across the heating (H) pins in order to warm up. Then, 5V need to be supplied at either the A or B pins to get a measurement (as an analog voltage) on the other pins.  With this breakout board, however, you only need to supply power (VCC, GND) and read the analog voltages on the analog output pin (A0).

The adjustable, resistive load between the output pins and ground sets the sensitivity of the detector. The resistive load should be calibrated for your particular application using the equations in the datasheet, but a good starting value for the resistor is 20~50KOhm (the included potentiometer ranges from 0~100KOhm).

This sensor is perfect for getting started with Environmental/Air Quality monitoring!
