Description
Measuring liquid/water flow is essential in applications like solar power, computer cooling, or gardening. This handy 1/2″ flow meter allows you to sense how much water flows through it by using the Hall effect (counting the revolutions of an embedded, magnetic impeller). This sensor is meant to sit in line with your water line, and the provide “pulses” that you can count to calculate the flow—knowing that its diameter is 1/2″. Using a magnetic field allows the sensor to measure flow while remaining safe and dry!
Usage is straight-forward, the sensor uses three wires: red (5~18VDC power), black (ground) and yellow (Hall effect pulse output). By counting the pulses from the output of the sensor, you can easily track fluid movement: each pulse is approximately 2.25 milliliters. Note this isn’t a precision sensor, and the pulse rate does vary a bit depending on the flow rate, fluid pressure and sensor orientation. It will need careful calibration if better than 10% precision is required. However, its great for basic measurement tasks!
