Description

These panels are manufactured by Sun Gold Power, and they represent a waterproof, scratch- and UV-resistant option for powering any project. Using high efficiency polycrystalline cells, these panels output a voltage of 17V (with an Open Circuit voltage of 21.2V) at 600 mA via 2 screw terminals inside its watertight junction box. The frame around the panel is made out of aluminum which makes for a strong yet lightweight build.

The aluminum frame has 4 mounting holes (see datasheet for dimensions) to allow for easily fixing the panel to flat surfaces. The tempered glass cover protects the solar cells from weather conditions. Included with this panel is a 1' long, 20AWG, 2-conductor, stranded wire as an option for connecting it to any device we want to power.

Applications

We used these panels to charge the Li-Po batteries used with the hardware of the Smart Citizen System. Please remember that the Output Voltage of this panel is 17V (DC) so care must be taken to step it down to acceptable levels of the device being powered. In the case of the Smart Citizen hardware, it includes both a step-down and charging circuitry in its design, thus this panel can be connected directly to the board.
