1.5″ 84×48 Nokia 3110/5110 Monochrome LCD Display Module (Blue Backlight; SPI)

These modules are great for using the old-but-not-forgotten Nokia 3110/5110 LCD screen with your electronics project. These displays are small, only about 1.5in diagonal, but very readable due to the high contrast LCD and the user-controlled backlight. This display is made of 84×48 individual pixels, each one is turned on or off by the controller chip. As this display uses a backlight for higher contrast, it consumes more power than the OLED screens in my other listings. However, this setup gives any image or text that’s displayed, a vintage feeling that is certain to spark some nostalgia. I really like this miniature display for its crispness!

To drive the display, you will need 3 to 5 digital output pins (depending on whether you want to manually control the chip select and reset lines). Another pin can be used to control (via on/off or PWM) the backlight - the backlight LEDs are wired to a transistor.

The display driver is a PCD8544 chip, and it runs at 3.3V (at ~10mA tops). These screens are recycled from older cell phones so they often have tiny nicks or scratches. There’s no such thing as a ‘new’ Nokia 5110 display, but the scratches are not noticeable when in use.
