Description
This board is an excellent platform for developing with the ESP32 SoC, a single chip solution that combines Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi capabilities. Different than our other development board, this one includes a 2.13″, 2-Color e-Ink/e-Paper display that communicates with the ESP32 over SPI and has a resolution of 250×128 pixels. It also carries a micro SD card adapter for applications requiring additional storage space.
e-Paper/e-Ink is a display technology that mimics the appearance of ink on paper. Unlike conventional displays, e-Paper reflects light just like ordinary paper and is capable of holding text and images indefinitely, even without electricity.
Due to its ultra-low power consumption, wide viewing angle, and clarity of display (even without power), e-Paper is an ideal choice for applications such as labels, tags, badges, and others where fast refresh rates aren’t necessary. Some of the downsides of e-Paper technology are its relative high price and slow refresh rates—in the order of 2 seconds for a full page—compared to OLED displays. Though animations aren’t really possible, we can use e-Paper in displays for things that don’t change too fast, for instance, ambient temperature and other Weather Station measurements.
