The WeMos D1 Mini family of boards is one of the latest additions to the ESP8266-based IoT ecosystem. The WeMos D1 Mini Prototyping Shield is designed to allow you to add different components to your WeMos D1 Mini. Just like with a Prototyping (Proto) board, you can use the holes to place the pins of your components (e.g., sensors, breakout boards, screw terminals) and solder them securely in place. You can then wire them to any of the pins on the Shield, which are connected to the corresponding pins on the WeMos D1 Mini!
The latest design of the WeMos D1 Mini Prototyping Shield has a row of holes next to the row for placing the connectors, which are electrically routed to the corresponding pin. Having 2 rows available for each pin (one for the connector, one for a wire or component lead) makes the wiring process mcuh, much easier!

Different users have different applications for the WeMos shields, thus we’ve found that the easiest way to please everyone is to ship the boards with the headers unsoldered. Each board in this kit includes a pair of Male, Female, Long Female pin headers for you to choose. Soldering is required for installing the header pins!
